About CPIT

The CPIT credentials cover a wide spectrum of IT subject matters or disciplines such as system architecture, project management, quality assurance, information security, business analysis and so on.

Successful CPIT certified professionals are expected to demonstrate at an adequately recognized level of competencies in specific professional disciplines.  This is proven by meeting stringent assessment requirements through eligibility verification, examinations, presentation, essays, and interviews as appropriate. In pursuit of self-excellence, the candidates are also committed to continuous professional development and abiding to professional ethics under the CPIT certification framework.

CPIT titles are aligned with the Qualifications Framework of the Hong Kong Education Bureau, providing the CPIT certified professionals with a clear roadmap for professional development.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The first batch of CPIT titles were launched since 2007 to recognize senior IT professionals in project management, systems architecture, and quality assurance. These titles include (i) CPIT (Project Director, PD), (ii) CPIT (Systems Architect, SA), and (iii) CPIT (Quality Assurance Manager, QAM).

Three more junior CPIT titles have been launched since 2009. These titles include (i) CPIT (Associate Project Manager, APM), (ii) CPIT (Information Security Officer, InfoSec), and (iii) CPIT (Business Analyst, BA) for IT professionals who have entered the IT profession for two years and are ready to choose a specialization for their IT career.

Objectives of CPIT

HKITPC has been endeavoring to raise the competency and professionalism of IT professionals through a sustainable and quality IT professional certification scheme recognized by local and international IT industry : IT professionals, academics and employers.

CPIT – Project Director

An IT Project Management Professional is a person responsible and accountable for an IT project and delegated the necessary authority to undertake that responsibility. HKITPC classifies IT project management professionals into three levels:

Applicant must satisfy the General Eligibility Requirements of the HKITPC, and the following specific specialization requirements of the respective CPIT credential.

CPIT – Systems Architect

An IT Systems Architect designs or architects IT solutions to address business requirements. Similar to the Architect in the building industry, IT Systems Architect will focus on the overall structure of a system, identifying major components and their relationships.

Certification Level

One level of Certification, Certified Professional IT (Systems Architect) – CPIT(SA), is provided.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must satisfy the General Eligibility Requirements of CPIT, and the following specific specialization requirements:

CPIT Credential Academic Qualifications IT Experience related to Systems Architecture
CPIT(SA) Degree holder Minimum Eight years with at least two projects of high system complexity
Non-degree holder Minimum Twelve years with at least two projects of high system complexity

Each CITP(SA) is required to demonstrate sufficient level of competencies in at least 3 of the 8 knowledge areas required for IT Systems Architect:

CPIT – Quality Assurance Manager

CPIT – Quality Assurance Manager

An IT Quality Assurance Management Professional is a person responsible and accountable for quality assurance of IT projects and systems. He/She plans and coordinates systematic activities in a quality system so that quality requirements for a product or service will be fulfilled.

Certification Level

One certification level, Certified Professional IT (Quality Assurance Manger) – CPIT(QAM), will be provided.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must satisfy the General Eligibility Requirements of CPIT, and the following specific specialization requirements:

CPIT Credential Academic Qualifications Experience related to IT Quality Assurance
CPIT(QAM) Degree holder Minimum ten years with substantial hands on experience on two high complexity** quality programs
Non-degree holder Minimum fifteen years with substantial hands on experience on two high complexity** quality programs

Competency Requirements

The CPIT(QAM) is required to demonstrate at least six levels of competencies in the following Competency Activity Groups (CAGs). These six CAGs consist of:

  • One Mandatory CAG in Personal Competency
  • Three Core CAGs in relation to Quality Assurance

CPIT – Associate Project Manager

This is the “entry level” CPIT credential for IT or business professionals with an emerging career interest and work exposure in project management in the IT area. Holders of CPIT(APM) are expected to have demonstrated in the examination their project management competencies in applying their knowledge, performing their skills and applying their process knowledge within the context of the IT work.

Eligibility Requirements

To attain the CPIT(APM) certified status, the applicant must satisfy the following three requirements:

  • Passed the CPIT(APM) exam which shall be a 3-hour examination with 120 multiple-choice questions;
  • Obtained an academic qualification of at least an AD/HD/undergraduate degree in IT or IT-related areas or Qualifications Framework Level 4 equivalent and
  • Possessed two years of relevant IT work experience.

Competency Requirements

Note that for the Associate Project Manager, the job requirements are likely to be lower in certain areas and for those cases the knowledge or competency requirements are flagged as Optional.

CPIT – InfoSec

Introduction
This is for IT professionals in the Information Security area. It certifies professionals with demonstrated and up-to-dated concepts, skills, knowledge and experience in the information security discipline, Holders of CPIT(InfoSec) are expected to have demonstrated in the examination their competencies in identifying, preventing and processing any security leaks, threats, intrusions, etc., in information systems and in defining policies, rules, behaviors, etc., in terms of information security within an organization.Introduction

Eligibility Requirement

  • Associate Degree or High Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in IT or IT-related areas or Qualifications Framework Level 4 equivalent
  • 2 years of IT experience

CPIT – Business Analyst

The career progression for BA could be diversified with senior titles such as Senior BA, Senior Systems Analyst and Systems Manager in IT or functional areas with IT User Organizations as well as Senior Consultant and Principal Consultant in IT Service Providers or Management Consulting.

Eligibility Requirements

To attain the CPIT(BA) certified status, the applicant must satisfy the following three requirements:

  • Passed the CPIT(BA) exam which shall be a 3-hour examination with 120 multiple-choice questions;
  • Obtained an academic qualification of at least an AD/HD/undergraduate degree in IT or IT-related areas or Qualifications Framework Level 4 equivalent and
  • Possessed two years of relevant IT work experience.

Note that for the Business Analyst, the job requirements are likely to be lower in certain areas and for those cases the knowledge or competency requirements are flagged as Optional.

CPIT – Project Manager

  • Holder of international credential with valid certification status. For CPIT(Project Manager), PMP Certification in good standing is required;

  • Possessed five years of project management experience.

CPIT – Systems Operation Officer
