The rapid digitalization of Asian economies continues to open new doors for opportunities of growth in the region. In his speech, Charles will share his views on what specific developments and innovations will become key driving forces in the next five years as well as how Micro Connect, his start-up endeavour that supports micro and small businesses, leverages digitalization to create a new financial ecosystem in which these businesses can gain access to unprecedented global capital.
Charles is Founder and Chairman of Micro Connect. He was most recently Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (“HKEX”) from January 2010 to December 2020. During this time, he orchestrated some of the most significant strategic initiatives in HKEX's history, including the acquisition of the London Metal Exchange in 2012, the launch of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect cross-border trading scheme in 2014, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2016, Bond Connect in 2017, and the Listing Reforms in 2018. Prior to joining HKEX in 2009, Charles served as Chairman of JP Morgan China from 2003 to 2009 and worked at Merrill Lynch from 1994 to 2003, where he served as President of Merrill Lynch China from 1999 to 2003. Earlier in his career, Charles practiced law at Brown & Wood and Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. Charles also serves on the Board of MarketAxess Holdings Inc. and the Board of Trustees of Asia Business Council. Charles received a BA in English Literature from Xiamen University, an MA in Journalism from the University of Alabama and a JD from Columbia Law School.

Raymond Janse van Rensburg is the Vice President for Systems Engineering at Cisco for the Asia Pacific, Japan and Greater China region. Raymond leads the overall strategic direction and leadership of the Systems Engineering and Architect community, while ensuring this group meets the business needs of Cisco customers and partners. Raymond is responsible for building the bridge between Cisco’s technology solutions and the customers’ business imperatives. His team of Systems Engineers plays a crucial role in helping customers connect, secure, and automate in order to accelerate their digital agility in a cloud-first world. Raymond has more than 25 years of experience in the networking and IT industry, including over 20 years at Cisco. Since joining Cisco in 1998 as a Systems Engineer, Raymond has held several sales, engineering and leadership roles spanning Enterprise, Commercial and Public Sector in the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), and Africa. He previously served as the technology lead for Cisco in ANZ. Raymond started his career as an academic, teaching at the University of Johannesburg (TWR Campus) and worked in various engineering and operational roles at SASOL Ltd. and IBM. Raymond is a CCIE Emeritus and holds a Honours Degree in Data Communications from the University of the Free State (South Africa). |

Andrew is Regional Senior Partner of KPMG in Hong Kong and Vice Chairman of KPMG China. He has over 30 years' experience servicing listed companies, public bodies, investment funds and MNCs in Hong Kong, China, Asia and internationally. He has a keen interest in corporate governance, board leadership and business in the community and leads the quarterly KPMG Independent Non-Executive Directors Forum. Andrew is a Fellow of ICAEW and HKICPA and is a Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Directors. He is a regular speaker at forums, universities and business schools on governance and business issues. Andrew has had a number of senior national, global and regional roles with KPMG. Industrialization development in E-commerce
Danny started his entrepreneurship right after graduating from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His first endeavor was an Information Technology Company, specializing in Enterprise Management Software. Having run the B2B business for 10 years, Danny saw great potential in B2C e-Commerce market. To capture the opportunity, he started the e-Commerce platform, Ztore (www.ztore.com) in 2015, and the "Flash Sales" platform, Neigbuy (www.neigbuy.com) in 2018. In 2021, Ztore and Neigbuy were acquired by Television Broadcasts Limited, where he succeeded as President of TVB e-Commerce Business Group. As a born and raised Hong Kong native, he believes TVB’s competence as the most influential media company in Hong Kong, combined with Ztore and Neigbuy’s focus in the local market, would comprehensively empower good products via massive organic traffic drawn from quality content production. “Industrialization” in a More Intelligent Way
In her current role as Central Asia Pacific’s Chief of Staff, Fan is responsible for business operations, supply chain and customer experience across the region. At the same time, Fan also serves as General Manager of Hong Kong and Macau for the PC and Smart Devices Group of Lenovo, where she leads Lenovo’s business for the group’s full range of Lenovo devices, solutions and services, covering all customer segments.
Fan joined Lenovo in 2018 as Asia Pacific Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy and Planning at Lenovo’s Asia Pacific headquarters. In this role, she led corporate and segment strategy development for Asia Pacific, as well as planning, customer experience, and various strategic and transformational initiatives.
Prior to joining Lenovo, she worked at Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and technology company, where she was General Manager of Corporate Strategy. Fan played a critical role in leading the company’s international strategy, and also steered community engagement as a Board Member and Program Leader of Telstra Foundation Hong Kong. Previously, Fan was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, in Hong Kong and New York, serving leading corporations in various industries, with a particular focus on the telecom and high tech sector and functionally on merger and acquisition and strategic due diligence situations. Fan is passionate about technology innovation and how it helps improve people’s lives. She is also enthusiastic about leveraging technologies to enhance local community and create a better environment for everyone.

Professor Chan was a director of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI), Chairman of the Technology Committee, He is a member of the Committee on Innovation, Technology and Re-industralisation. He is a Fellow of HKIE, IEEE and HKAES.
Professor Tim Cheng is Vice-President for Research and Development (VPRD) and Chair Professor jointly in the Electronic & Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Departments at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He is also the Director of InnoHK AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems which aims to advance IC design to help realize ubiquitous AI applications in society.At HKUST, Prof. Cheng served as Dean of Engineering for 6 years prior to taking the current role of VPRD. Prior to joining HKUST in 2016, he was on the faculty of the University of California, Santa Barbara where he also served in various administrative roles including ECE Department Chair and Associate Vice-Chancellor for Research.An internationally leading researcher with extensive experience in fostering cross-disciplinary research collaboration, Prof. Cheng is a world authority in the field of electronics design verification and testing, as well as covering a wide range of research areas including design automation of electronic and photonic systems, computer vision, and medical image analysis.
Tony Shien-Ping Feng is a Professor of Advanced Design and Systems Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and Associate Dean (Internationalization & Industry Engagement) of the College of Engineering. He received his BS, MS, PhD from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. Before entering academia, he was an engineer and manager at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and a deputy director at Tripod Technology Corporation. He was employed as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT and an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at HKU. His research focuses on electrochemical system design and materials engineering for green energy and semiconductor manufacturing.
Dr. Daniel SHI is the Vice President of Integrated Circuits and Systems Technology Division (ICS) of ASTRI, leading the division to develop its core competencies in 3rd generation semiconductor, IoT and AI for smart city and industry 4.0 related applications. Dr SHI has 30 years of working experience in advanced semiconductor field including different research and management positions in City University of Hong Kong, Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, Philips and Intel, etc. Dr SHI received his PhD from Tsinghua University, China in 1995. He has published more than 120 international journal and conference papers, held 30 patents, and received the First Prize of the 2020 State Science & Technology Progress Award. He is the Vice-Director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center (CNERC) for Application Specific Integrated Circuit System (Hong Kong Branch), and the Director of International Collaboration Committee of China Advanced Semiconductor Alliance (CASA). He also serves as guest professor at the Peking University, China.

Mr Anthony Lam is the Executive Deputy Chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries, as well as the Chairman of Group 8 (Food, beverage and tobacco) and Hong Kong Q-Mark Council under FHKI’s auspices. Mr Lam is also the CEO and the Vice-Chairman of Golden Resources Development International Ltd, one of the top-selling rice providers in Hong Kong with businesses across South-East Asia, North America, Europe and Australia. Mr Lam actively promotes the advancement of local agricultural, fisheries and food manufacturing industries. Mr. Liu Chun-Wai, Bobby, joined the Group in 1999, was appointed as an executive director of the Company in January 2016. Mr. Bobby Liu is responsible for retail technology applications and production management of the Group. He is also a member of the Sustainability Committee of the Company. Mr. Liu is a director of certain subsidiaries of the Group. Mr. Liu has over 20 years of experience in retail business and operational management. Mr Pou holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr Pou joined the HKMA in 1994 as an Assistant Manager. He was promoted as Manager in 1997,as Senior Manager in 2000 and as Division Head in 2008. Mr Pou has worked in different areas of HKMA’s work including banking supervision, banking policy, banking development, monetary operations and payment system operations. Mr Pou was seconded to The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited (HKMC) during 2015 to 2018 to oversee HKMC's general insurance business, before taking up the present position on 29 October 2018.

Professor Yi-Ke Guo, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), the Provost Designate of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prof Guo was appointed as the Vice-President (Research and Development) of Hong Kong Baptist University since 2020. Prof Guo is Professor of Computing Science in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London since 2002 and was the founding Director of the Data Science Institute at Imperial College since 2014, which is one of the six Imperial College Global Challenge Institutes.
He is also a Member of Academia Europaea (MAE), Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES), Fellow of British Computer Society. Prof. Guo is also the investigator of several major data science projects in UK and Europe, and he is now the principal investigator of a research project, “Building Platform Technologies for Symbiotic Creativity in Hong Kong”, which has been awarded funding of HK$52.8 million from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council’s (RGC) Theme-based Research Scheme in 2021. This is the first time that major funding has been allocated by RGC for an art-tech project.

Mr. Alan Cheung is the Senior Director of the Trust and Artificial Intelligence technologies division in ASTRI. He leads the division in driving ASTRI’s initiatives, particularly in Fintech and Smart City areas with innovative applications such as blockchain systems, cybersecurity, secure fintech services, federated learning, risk assessment and multimedia data analytics. Being a proactive collaborator with strong business acumen, Alan is always keen to connect commercial partners to develop innovative use cases across industry sectors.
Herbert joined Alibaba and served as the Vice President of Alibaba. At present, he is a member of Governance Committee of Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, Digital Economy Development Committee and Board of Director of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. In addition, he was also rated as 2017 “China Top 10 Most Influential Big Data Entrepreneurs” by the State Information Center and garnered 2021 “Golden Goose Award in AI excellent Achievement” in China.
Ir. Prof. Samson Tai is the Professor of Practice in the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences at the Hong Kong Baptist University. Before that he was the IBM Distinguished Engineer and CTO of IBM Hong Kong responsible for creating and driving IBM Hong Kong’s technical strategy.

Mr Dennis Wu is the Founding President of Great Bay Area Carbon Neutrality Association (GBACNA), he is also the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Allied Sustainability and Environmental Consultants Group Limited (Stock Code: 8320.HK). Mr. Wu mainly focuses on Green and Healthy Buildings, Environmental Consultancy and Sustainability Advisory. He is also the Founder and CEO of AEC Capital. Currently, Mr. Wu is a Co-Chair of Green and Sustainable Private Equity Working Group under Hong Kong Green Finance Association, a Co-Chair of Hong Kong Private Equity Finance Association, a member of Environment and Sustainability Committee under Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.and so on. Outside Hong Kong, he contributes to Net Zero Readiness Framework development as WorldGBC Asia Pacific Net Zero Collaborator. Mr. Wu owns the professional certifications on GRI Professional Certification Program, TCFD, ISO14064 and ISO14001. As the Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), Eric spearheads all strategic development to drive Zurich’s Life Insurance and General Insurance businesses in Hong Kong and in the Greater China. Chairing The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) in the office term 2020/2021, Eric is currently a Governing Committee Member and a General Insurance Councillor. He also serves as the Chairman of GIC InsurTech Task Force and Task Force on Green Insurance. Eric is also a member of the Resolution Compensation Tribunal and the Insurance Appeals Tribunal as appointed by the HKSAR Government, among other public roles. Eric graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master degree and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration, and completed the Advanced Management Program by INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau.
Dr. Kang Qu is Deputy GM of Strategic Planning Department at Bank of China (Hong Kong), and as Managing Director, currently leads sustainability strategy of the bank. Dr. Qu joined Bank of China in 2006 in London. When heading the research and strategic planning team in London, Dr. Qu managed macro-economic research of EMEA, led corporate strategy and devised strategic planning of ESG for Bank of China’s business in the U.K. Dr. Qu is a Member of Directors of China International Finance Society and a member of the Data Working Group led by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Dr. Qu obtained his PhD in Finance from University of Durham. He also received a MSc degree from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and BSc in Computer Science and Technology from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

Plato Wong is the Head of Green and Sustainable Finance at Friends of the Earth (HK) responsible for the Green Finance team. His role entails close collaboration with government agencies, trade associations and supranational in formulating ESG frameworks and sustainability related policies. Prior to joining Friends of the Earth (HK), he was a Guest Lecturer with City University in Hong Kong. Before he joined City University, He was the APAC Director of Research and Operations for DHR International which is one of the leading Human Resources Consulting firms globally. In addition, he has also worked as the Regional Research Manager at a FinTech company, Dealogic responsible for a group of APAC researchers analyzing Fixed Income transactions and institutional investments in the region. Plato is a Certified ESG Analyst with a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Australia. |
