Prof. Shum is a Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering and an International Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering. He currently serves as the University Council Chairman of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Founding Chairman of International Digital Economy Academy (IDEA). A world-class expert on computer science and artificial intelligence (AI), Prof. Shum was previously the Executive Vice President of Microsoft Corporation, responsible for driving the company’s overall AI strategy and forward-looking research and development efforts. He is also one of the founding members of Microsoft Research China (later renamed Microsoft Research Asia) and served as the Managing Director and Chief Scientist of the research institute, helping to cultivate many world-leading computer scientists, tech experts and entrepreneurs.

He worked as a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) (2002-2019), a Chair Professor at the Center for Neuroscience and Cognition at Tsinghua University, Overseas Distinguished Young Scholar of the Natural Science Foundation of China, Yangtze River Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education, and overseas expert of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His main research interests are computer vision, multimedia information retrieval, and machine learning. He has received the Google Faculty Research Award, the UTSA President's Outstanding Research Award, and was one of the 10 most influential scholars in the field of multimedia. He has published 750+ peer reviewed international journal and conference papers, and his Google citation is 57000+ with H-index 106. He won 8 best paper awards including ACM Multimedia, etc.

Purdy is an early participant in artificial intelligence. She obtained her bachelor's and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2001, with her master's thesis in machine learning under the supervision of Prof. Tomaso Poggio. During her early career at Hewlett Packard Research Labs, she obtained two US patents and her research was published in NIPS, ECCV, ICCV, etc.
Purdy moved on to equity research in New York, Shanghai and Hong Kong after obtaining her MBA from Sloan. As the Head of Global Technology, her research focuses on artificial intelligence, semiconductor and cloud computing, coverage included NVIDIA, AMD, Google, etc. Purdy’s research also extends to Chinese startups specialized in autonomous driving. Purdy came second in New Fortune Best Analyst Award - Overseas Coverage in 2017/2019. In 2018, she claimed the Golden Bull Most Valuable Analyst Award.

Professor Helen Meng is Patrick Huen Wing Ming Chair Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her research interests lie in AI-enabled speech and language technologies. She serves as Founding Director of the Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII) since 2020, which is the CUHK-led InnoCentre on Artificial Intelligence (AI) located in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Ltd. In 2019, she was awarded the first Hong Kong SAR Government Research Grant Council’s Theme-based Research Grant in the field of AI, which supports her interdisciplinary team to develop AI-enabled spoken language technologies to screen and diagnose neurocognitive disorder (a.k.a. dementia). Since 2019, Helen has been Co-Principal Investigator and Chair of Curriculum Development of the CUHK-JC AI4Future Project, and developed the first comprehensive pre-tertiary AI education curriculum in Hong Kong, adopted by the Government’s Education Bureau.

Dr. Leung is the Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Hong Kong and Macau, responsible for overseeing the company’s business strategy and operations in these markets. Under his leadership and dedication, the company has managed to achieve an outstanding performance despite the economic ups and downs, and successfully extended its market reach to customers of all sizes, ranging from multinational corporations to small-to-medium enterprises. Dr. Leung was the General Manager of EMC Hong Kong and Macau; and prior to joining EMC, he was the General Manager at Sun Microsystems Hong Kong and Macau.

Xingqun Jiang, holding a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, is primarily engaged in research on chip manufacturing technology and artificial intelligence image algorithms. Currently serving as the Senior Vice President and Co-Chief Technology Officer at BOE Technology Group, Dr. Jiang is responsible for the overall development of innovative IoT products and technological advancements, covering more than 10 major product lines including consumer electronics, commercial displays, and industry solutions. Moreover, Dr.Jiang is also the major architect of BOE's AIoT technology system in the transformation of BOE towards the Internet of Things. Previously, Dr.Jiang served as the Technical Director for the Light and Shadow Screen project for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the National Day in 2019 and the snowflake main torch platform project for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Dr. Xiaodong He has conducted research in the field of artificial intelligence, including natural language processing and language-vision multimodal intelligence, for more than 20 years. He is one of the world-class scientists in this field and is the winner of the WU WEN-JUN AI Science & Technology Outstanding Contribution AWARD. He has published more than 200 papers, with more than 40,000 citations, and has won many awards such as the ACL Outstanding Paper Award and the IEEE SPS Best Paper Award. After joining JD.com in 2018, he led the team to develope cutting-edge technical breakthroughs and innovative products, including the "Yanxi (Chat Rhino)" artificial intelligence application platform, intelligent customer service system, interactive auto-marketing system, and served a broad range of industrial scenarios in metro systems, medical care, retail, finance and others. Before joining JD.COM, Dr. Xiaodong He worked at Microsoft Research Redmond as Principal Researcher and Head of the Deep Learning Technology Center (DLTC). Prior to that Kevin assumed the CIO of China Eastern Airlines. He rebuilt the entire IT capability and enabled China Eastern becoming the 5th largest and profitable airlines in the world. He received China’s Best CIO Award for 3 years consecutively since 2010.
Kevin also advised IBM Global Executive as Board of Advisor for 4 years since 2011, and took up Board Directorship in International companies such as SITA and Travelsky. He obtained Executive MBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), and received a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence from Monash University Australia.

Prof. Haitian LU is Hong Kong Sustaintech Foundation Professor in Accounting and Finance, Director of Mainland Development Office and Co-Director of the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance (CESEF) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prof. Lu obtained his Ph.D in law from National University of Singapore, Master of Law from Liverpool University and Bachelor of Law from Nanjing University. During January to June 2016 he was visiting research professor at New York University Stern School of Business. Prof. Lu’s teaching and research interest centers on the FinTech, RegTech, SustainTech, ethics and regulatory framework in Hong Kong and mainland China. Prof. Lu had secured and completed 20 interdisciplinary projects with total funding over HKD 20 million. He is a frequent speaker at prominent international conferences and has published widely in leading law, finance, economics and management journals.

Ms Ada Chung Lai-ling was appointed as the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in September 2020.
Ms Chung was qualified as a barrister and a Certified Public Accountant. She has solid legal expertise in privacy law, company law, tax, trust and administrative law. Ms Chung also has abundant experience in regulatory and administrative work. Before her appointment as the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, she was the Registrar of Companies, Registrar of Money Lenders, and had held various posts in the Department of Justice. In her role as the Registrar of Companies, she contributed significantly to the rewrite of the Companies Ordinance and spearheaded the implementation of the new Companies Ordinance. More recently, she was instrumental in amending the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to more effectively combat doxxing behaviour. She also led her team in the compilation of a Guidance on the Ethical Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.

He graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences (Government and Laws), a Bachelor of Laws, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Law. He has been a member of Youth I.D.E.A.S. since 2015 and was appointed as a member of the HKFYG Youth Service Advisory Committee. He currently serves as an Executive Committee member of the Hong Kong University Alumni Association. He has been an active participant in social services and voluntary works. He focuses on various notable topics including the economic development of Hong Kong and youth development.
Dr. Liu Qifeng is the Applied AI Director of Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation of Chinese Academy of Sciences (HKISI-CAS), Adjunct Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), EVP and Secretary-General of Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (HKSAIR), Council Member of the Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence (CAAI).
PIETARINEN Ahti is professor at the Department of Religion and Philosophy, Hong Kong Baptist University, and member of its Transdisciplinary Theoretical and Ethical Artificial Intelligence Lab and the Centre for Applied Ethics. Pietarinen’s research on the human and artificial minds and their complexities has been published in a hundred Web of Science journal articles. His work addressess emerging human and machine reasoning competences, capabilities, and defects; diverse and creative aspects of cognition; and the theory, history, philosophy, and ethics of AI.
Paul Tsang has more than 20 years of experience specializing in security infrastructure design, IT risk assessment, Cloud security, and data loss prevention strategy.
Dr. Tao Yu is the Chief Technologist of Data Analytics in Trust and AI Technologies of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). She is leading the data analytics team working on various big data and AI solutions for different domains including Fintech, smart city, digital marketing and intelligent manufacturing. Dr. Yu has more than 20 years of research and development experience in distributed system, Cloud computing and big data analytics. She received a PhD degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Irvine and has published several papers in International conferences and journals.
