The Digital Economy has crept into our lives for almost 2 decades. Sometimes, it is called the Internet Economy, empowered by 3 main components – the supporting infrastructure (hardware, software and networks), e-Business (how business is conducted over computer-mediated networks), and e-Commerce (online order and delivery of goods).

The middleman is disappearing. Businesses can be connected directly with customers as technology facilitates the exchange of information between product/services providers and customers. There are new ways to create and add values in the process in order to survive.

The Digital Economy is largely based on using information technology to develop new products and services. In the innovation economy, human imagination and creativity are the main source of value. In a digital economy, the challenge lies in creating an environment which encourages and rewards innovation.

The convergence of computing, communication, and content is taking place. These together create the interactive multimedia platform on which the new age is dependent upon. Application of ICT such as Cloud Computing, Mobile Technologies, Big Data Analytics, Internet of Everything (IOE), 3D Printing, and Interactive Multimedia Technologies need to be bundled differently to change the behavior of customers for better customer engagement and experience.

The Digital Economy creates opportunities for the banking, healthcare, retailing and distribution, design and manufacturing, government, leisure travel and tourism, learning and education, entertainment and media, and more. Some of the success stories will be presented in the HKICC 2015.

May I wish HKICC 2015 every success in its endeavor!

I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to the Hong Kong Computer Society on staging the Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2015 (HKICC 2015).

HKICC has been an annual international flagship event for sharing insights, achievements and opportunities in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This year, HKICC 2015 will again bring together ICT professionals, industry leaders and business executives locally, from Mainland China and overseas, to share and exchange latest ideas, innovations and best practices.

With its theme, “#digital_economy – Powered by Innovation”, HKICC 2015 will lead us to explore how business and society have significantly benefited from powerful digital enablers such as mobility, cloud computing, social media, big data and the Internet of things. This conference will also provide a unique knowledge exchange platform for experts and participants to share their visions and wisdoms on how these powerful digital enablers will transform our lives in many unimaginable ways.

With great enthusiasm, I look forward to this inspiring conference and to meeting many ICT movers and shakers. Wishing you all an enjoyable and rewarding conference!

Past President & Distinguished Fellow of Hong Kong Computer Society

Let me send my warmest congratulations to the Organizing Committee of HKICC, the HKCS and all members upon the 38th Anniversary of the founding in 1978 of HKICC (renamed from HKCC).

Over the years, the Society has lived up to its status as one of the three earliest leading professional learned institutions for the ICT professionals in Hong Kong. In 1980 it then became the most influential with its contributions and the expansion of membership from 850 to over 1700.

In 1984 we completed an important milestone for our international status when we hosted the South East Asia Regional Computer Conference (SEARCC) following our successful bid in 1980.

Before the restoration of sovereignty of Hong Kong by China in 1997, the HKCS had well prepared for this through the “One conference, Two cities” with the extension of the HK Computer Conference to the HK International Computer Conference in 1993.

Based on its contributions to the “One country, Two systems” in the field of ICT in the past 18 years, the Society and its HKICC will further sustain its role in furthering its support to both the role of ICT professionals in the IT Functional Constituency and the HKSAR role of complementing the “13-5” (2016-2022) China National Strategic Plan and the “One Belt, One Road” international economic initiative of China.

Together the HKCS and its members will continue to sustain our contributions to the HK ICT industry and the status of the ICT profession.
