VIOLA is a low-cost true video-on-demand (VOD) server. Based on research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, it gives client PCs instant access to high quality video on a local area network via a VCR-like control interface. |
Unlike most VOD systems, VIOLA uses an innovative server array approach. The benefits include enhanced system capacity, scalability and load balancing as well as server-level fault tolerance and fault recovery. |
| "Good application of advanced and mature technology...the product implements a fault-tolerant feature which is quite novel...well targeted to the small-scale VOD niche market ." |
