Guest of Honor Mrs. Rita Lau, JP delivered an insightful speech during the Conference Opening Ceremony.

In the face of the sweeping changes in our modern living and the pervasive penetration of information and communication technologies, experts and government officials are increasingly concerned about the possible marginalisation of part of the population, especially the aged and the underprivileged. Prompt actions are being taken to close the “digital gap”. Therefore, it brings the theme of this year’s conference, “IT Challenges in a Caring and Digitally Connected Society”

“We are not only vigilant of the pressing issues that give the society direct impacts, but also attending to a number of issues which apparently seem less urgent in face, but with delayed or improper attention of which will weaken our society physically, socially and financially.” remarked HKCS President Ir. Stephen Lau, JP, “Swift and urgent actions are needed to be taken to narrow the digital gap, so that people irrespective of their ages or socio-economic-statuses can enjoy the benefits brought about by a technology enabled and digitally connected society.”.

HKICC2010 Programme Committee Chairperson Dr. Nim Cheung outlined the extensive programme.

Experts and opinion leaders put heads together to discuss issues over climatic change, aging populations, social exclusion, global security, and many other topics of choice. “These significant areas are worthy of our immediate scrutiny and proactive response with continued and concerted efforts to narrow a society’s digital divide as well as to prepare for a digitally connected and enabled society that is caring and sustaining.” expressed HKICC2010 Programme Committee Chairperson Dr. Nim Cheung. With a packed programme and an ever expanding list of speakers, this year's conference attracted record numbers of delegates.
