MSC
RFID WIP Management System for the Apparel Industry

This system is designed specifically for use in
apparel manufacturing. A low frequency RFID card
reader on each sewing machine reads an RFID card
attached to each bundle of cut pieces. A simple
network then collects real-time production data
so that WIP (work in progress) by bundle and by
worker can be monitored by the floor manager.
From a worker perspective, the process of inserting
RFIS cards into the reader is simplicity itself,
and minimal training is required. The low price
of cards and readers means that a shop floor with
500 workstations can be fully equipped for around
HK$0.25m, which is quite attractive to Mainland
SME factories. In just nine months, the system
has notched up some HK$12m in sales.
In the back office operation, data can be downloaded
to an Excel file to allow further analysis of
worker performance, job progress, production cycle
time measurement and wage calculation. The system
also captures the subcontract check out and check
in processes, allowing subcontractor performance
and lead time to be readily ascertained. Sales
offices in different locations can trace order
status by means of on line reports. |
