Talent Cultivation

Enhancing competitiveness and facilitating growth

of Hong Kong’s businesses and industries through

applications of technology has always been a priority

at HKCS. In the past twelve months we devoted a large

amount of resources towards nurturing young graduates

and professionals to become competent members of

our trade.

On the youth front, we co-organised the Inter-school

Mobile Application Design Contest (IMADC) February

last year, to arouse the interests of high school students

in mobile apps. University students, on the other hand,

were engaged in the Robocon Hong Kong Contest in

June, which we hosted once again in partnership with

the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Hong

Kong Cyberport Management Company Ltd. (Cyberport),

with a view to boosting Hong Kong’s leading position in

the thriving robotics arena. These contests showcased

the ingenuity and problem-solving skills of our college

students, and created traction in grooming the future

practitioners.

Separately, in March 2014 our Youth Club successfully

organised the second IT Career Expo, which attracted

over 1,400 mostly young visitors, making it the

biggest event of this kind in Hong Kong. I am pleased

to announce that the next Expo will be held in Sep

2015. Moreover, the ICT Career Talk Series continued

to spark enthusiasm of school and college students,

where renowned industry leaders and entrepreneurs

would share their insights and thoughts, and inspire the

audience with ideas and wills.

Our efforts extended beyond borders in the annual

Shanghai-Hong Kong-Taiwan Youth IT Summer

Camp, held for the 1st time by Taiwan in July. This

4-day program offered students of the three cities an

excellent opportunity to interact and learn together,

through gameplays, workshops, site visits and many

other activities around a theme of mobile technology’s

impact on our daily lives.
