Y2K Contingency Planning in The Hospital Authority

The Hospital Authority has established a Y2K Steering Committee to prevent emergence of Y2K problems in the Authority's clinical and non-clinical systems by taking appropriate preventive actions, identifying and testing all mission critical equipment for Y2K compliance, implementing rectification action on all Y2K non-compliant equipment and formulating Y2K contingency plans in readiness for the Y2K rollover.

A Y2K Contingency Planning Task Force has been established under the Y2K Steering Committee to formulate:

  1. Contingency and Disaster Recovery Plan for key information system.
  2. HA-wide contingency planning framework to cover current clinical services and civil disaster.
  3. Contingency plans for non-compliant medical equipment.
  4. Contingency preparations to ensure services would be unaffected by Y2K problem.
  5. Contingency plans to deal with problems in the community.

The Y2K Contingency Planning Task Force has prepared a Y2K contingency template which is intended as a Y2K risk management tool to raise staff awareness on the Y2K rollover, focusing on identified high risk areas requiring contingency strategies and remedial actions when need arises.

The Task Force identified various contingency measures to deal with anticipated or unanticipated Y2K problems.
