Dr Mr Kamalakar Karlapalem

Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science

Dr Kamalakar Karlapalem is an associate professor in Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1993. He received his M Stat from Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, in 1985, M Tech in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1986, and Ph D from Georgia Institute of Technology, in December 1992. He worked for two years as software engineer at Tata Consultancy Services, India and National Informatics Centre, India.

He was also a student intern at Hewlett-Packard (Cupertino) working on conceptualization, design and implementation of a distributed relational database system. He is interested in the following research areas, cooperative problem solving, data warehousing and data mining, distributed database design/redesign, multimedia data allocation, object-oriented class partitioning and workflow systems security and electronic commerce. He has published more than 50 technical papers in the above areas.

Dr Karlapalem has served on the committees of various international conferences (like, VLDB, CoopIS and CAISE). He is a member of IEEE Computer Society and ACM.
