Mr W Y Leung is the Assistant Director of Civil Aviation, Hong Kong SAR Government. He joined the Civil Aviation Department in 1974 and has more than 24 years of experience in the civil aviation electronic field. He is responsible for the planning, installation and commissioning of various air traffic control systems, radar, navigational aids and communication systems for Hong Kong International Airport, including those for the old Airport at Kai Tak. Besides, he is now in-charge of the Y2K compliance work for the Department and works very closely with the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong-based Airlines, local Aircraft Maintenance Agencies and other government departments with respect to Y2K compliance of those safety-and security-related systems operated by the above organisations. Furthermore, he also oversees the Y2K contingency planning work for these organisations so as to ensure a safe air traffic control operation during the millennium change-over.
