Dr William Lo, JP Chief Executive Officer Global Consumer Banking Citibank Hong Kong / Macau Dr William Lo, JP, is the Chief Executive Officer of Global Consumer Banking, Citibank Hong Kong/Macau which provides a wide spectrum of quality financial services for its retail customers, including loans, deposits, investments, insurance and credit cards. He joined the bank in October 1998. Dr Lo came from the Hongkong Telecom (HKT) Group where he was the Founder & the Managing Director of its wholly-owned subsidiary, the Hongkong Telecom IMS Ltd (HKTIMS), focusing on the development of interactive multimedia services including the world's first Interactive TV (iTV) service and Netvigator - an internet online service (1994-1998). During his four years with the group, Dr Lo has built HKTIMS into one of the largest multimedia servicing companies in Asia. Prior to joining the Hongkong Telecom Group, Dr Lo was a management consultant with McKinsey and Company, specialising in competitive strategy formulation, organisation effectiveness, and mergers and acquisitions. Dr Lo holds a M Phil Degree in Molecular Pharmacology and a Ph D degree in Genetic Engineering, both from Cambridge University. He was a Commonwealth Scholar, a Croucher Foundation Fellow (HK), and a Bye-Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. He has published more than 20 scientific papers in various learned journals. During 1995/1996 Dr Lo participated as a part-time member for the Government's Think Tank - Central Policy Unit. He is at present a Government-appointed member of the Industry & Technology Development Council (ITDC), the HK Committee of the Pacific Economic Council (PECC), the Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IIAC) and the Community Involvement Committee. Dr Lo is also a member of the Board of Education as well as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Quality Assurance Inspection of the Education Department. Dr Lo is a Council Member of the Open University of Hong Kong and a member of the Board of Directors of the Provisional HK Science Park Company Ltd. Dr Lo also serves as a non-executive director on the board of two publicly listed companies - Smartone Mobile Communications Ltd (315) and Cybersonic Technology Ltd (336). In 1996, Dr Lo was selected as a "1996 Global Leader for the Future" by the renowned global organisation World Economic Forum for his contributions in bringing multimedia technology and services to the people of Asia. On July 1, 1999 the second anniversary of the Return of Hong Kong's Sovereignty to China, Dr Lo was appointed as a Justice of the Peace of the HKSAR Government. |
